The
Connect
Quick system
has been developed from my interest in Amateur Radio Contesting.
When
we are setting up a contest station there is an enormous amount of
work to do in a very short time in order to get on the air during the
allowed hours of the contest. Our group is developing methods
and procedures that simplify the process and are repeatable.
The
plates in the Connect
Quick allow you to pre-mount them onto the mast
and booms of the antennas so that they can be quickly attached in a
matter of seconds. This means no more fumbling with U-bolts and
their nuts and washers while you are on the mountaintop! Rather
you can have them properly positioned for balance and antenna polarity
back home before you leave. Just place the two plates together
with their interlocking bolts, twist 14 degrees and the spring loaded
pin will drop in place to hold them. It's that easy!
To
remove them you reverse the process by pulling out on the pin, rotate
counterclockwise and extract the bolts from their keyhole slots.
The
plates will accommodate from 3/4" to 2" diameter
tubing. You supply the U bolts in your material of choice.
Boom
plates, whether they are for horizontal or vertical, will fit any mast
plate so you can interchange them or have different boom mounts that
attach to the same mast mount. We suggest the use of v blocks,
or similar cradles, between the tubing and the plate.
This
will help you to not over-torque the nuts which will bend the
plates. We also like the flanged nuts with a serrated locking
surface.
The plates are
aluminum with stainless steel bolts and the spring pin assembly is
tool steel that has been electroplated with copper and then nickel.
